Hotsauce

Some of the brightest minds in product, marketing, e-commerce, and UX came together to connect over the future of digital experiences at Hotjar’s first flagship event, the Hotsauce conference, in NYC. I was privileged to design all the motion pieces of the event, including the sauce and of course, the opening film.

Think of some renowned events like the SXSW, OFFF Festival, or Adobe Summit – they all share a common element: an opening film that sets the tone and generates excitement. With this in mind, I aimed to create a visual story of the sauce arriving in NYC, symbolically taking over the city.

"Sila’s opening film for Hotjar’s first ever HOTSAUCE conference was a pivotal part of setting the stage for our event. The film skilfully combined the energy and design of the conference with the iconic backdrop of New York City. It was a joy to witness the positive impact the film had on our attendees, enhancing their enthusiasm right from the start. Sila’s work not only met but exceeded our expectations, making our conference opener both moving and memorable – it was the perfect start to our two day event!"

The Sauce

The secret sauce transcends the ordinary. It possesses a captivating, light, and warm essence that invites a sense of playfulness. Acting as the very personality of Hotsauce’s creative concept, it beautifully adorns our structure grids and infuses the spirit of the event into the creative banners.

Inspired by the mesmerizing movement of late 60’s lava lamps, I created a library of sauce loops that capture the same captivating effect. Drawing on the slow-swirling colored wax, I developed two distinct loop types: Complex loops (C-loops) and Simple loops (S-loops). In the C-loops, the sauce divides into smaller parts before coalescing, while in the S-loops, it remains as a single, fluid drop. Each loop type plays with the fluid dynamics of the sauce, offering a unique visual experience reminiscent of the iconic lava lamp aesthetic.
